This was part of training at Boot Camp and when we did Indoc when we hit the ship. I can’t recall if it was in the Blue Jacket manual or if it was just verbal training as it was the 90s and I can’t remember precisely something that happened 30 years ago.

Got out, went to work at a shipyard, and got yelled at by a civi safety guy for removing my hardhat while passing through the mess decks. The sailors were eating (so totally safe), and habits are hard to kill.
