Nobody walks up to you and says you're being developed for leadership. That's not how it works. They test you first, watch how you handle it, and decide long before anyone tells you a thing. I've watched who actually ends up on the shortlist for the bigger seat, and the signs are almost never the ones people expect: 1️⃣ You're handed ambiguous problems instead of clear tasks. Figuring it out is the test. 2️⃣ You keep ending up in rooms above your level with no obvious reason. You're being exposed to the next level. 3️⃣ Your boss starts asking your opinion on people and staffing decisions. They're testing your judgment. 4️⃣ You're looped into the why behind decisions, not just the what. They want you thinking beyond your role. 5️⃣ You're asked to present work to senior leadership yourself. They want your name attached to the results. 6️⃣ Your feedback gets tougher, not easier. High standards usually mean they still see potential. 7️⃣ You're moved between teams or given stretch assignments. They're broadening your experience, not sidelining you. 8️⃣ People bring you problems outside your job. They're already treating you like a decision-maker. 9️⃣ You keep hearing,

They're broadening your experience, not sidelining you. 8️⃣ People bring you problems outside your job. They're already treating you like a decision-maker. 9️⃣ You keep hearing, "Someone mentioned you." People with influence are talking about you when you're not in the room. 🔟 You're introduced to people who matter, inside and outside your team. Good leaders expand your visibility, not just your workload. If several of these are happening, stop waiting for permission and start operating like the role is already yours. If none of them are, that's useful information too. Comment ELITE and I'll send you The Elite Edge, my no fluff newsletter on how these decisions really get made. #careeradvice #leadership #corporatelife #careergrowth #promotion
