— “Why are you breathing loudly?” Winter's voice came from the living room. Karina's head peeked out, “Me?” “No, probably the mailman outside.” She replied, sarcastically, “Yes, you.” “Oh, I'll try to minimize my lung capacity next time..” The corner of Winter's lips curved slightly. Then— She immediately clutched her hips like it had been stabbed—which, technically was like that.. Karina tensed, she knew what had just happened. Her wife is going through her red days. And she had exactly 10 minutes to get the comfiest hoodie, the tastiest snack and a boiling hot water poured into a hot compress. She wasted no time. — “I want strawberries!” Winter yelled, even though her wife was sitting beside her. Karina covered her ears before standing up. “Okay, I'll get your strawberries.” “I want those that are big and juicy.” Karina paused, “The store that sells those is like.. 4 streets away.. and it's already evening.” Winter raised a brow, “Are you complaining?” She watched the latter gulp and shake her head before heading outside. — Karina was too busy examining the fruits that she didn't realize it had started raining. Hard. And she brought no umbrella. She had walked all the way to this store because “the gas prices are expensive.” So, after picking out the ripest and sweetest batch of strawberries—she took one look of the parking lot outside—and ran. She ran so fast she could participate in the olympics. She knew she would get sick after—but the thought of her wife suffering because of her period was worse. Her Winter is waiting for her. — The door opened after 16 minutes and Winter immediately ran to it like a puppy. A sharp sting of pain shot through her abdomen—but all she could process was her wife is soaking wet and shivering. Without a word—she pulled her in and guided her towards the couch—ignoring the puddle of water it would leave soon. “Stupid.” She whispered, “I got your strawberries.” Karina smiled sheepishly. “I wanted strawberries and you dry and healthy.” She crossed her arms, Karina was about to stand up to cut the fruits but Winter just pushed her back down. Then, she straddled her lap. “Stay.” Karina heard her say, “You've done enough, baby.” Winter added. Then, she took the box of strawberries from her hand and wrapped a warm blanket around them. — Winter peeled the leaves from the strawberries one by one. Then, she ate one and fed her wife the second. Sometimes she'd steal a kiss, sometimes it was Karina. They were both suffering internally, but none paid attention to it.
