And that’s where Jesus challenges him—not simply to ask, “Was my reaction understandable?” but to ask, “What kind of person am I called to be?” It’s easy to be kind when people are kind to us. It’s easy to stay peaceful when no one is testing our patience. The real challenge comes when someone keeps pushing, disrespecting, hurting, or provoking us. Our natural instinct says: They did it to me, so I have the right to do it back. But Jesus calls us to something different. Walking with Him doesn’t mean we never feel angry, hurt, or frustrated. It means those feelings don’t have to decide our response. We can set boundaries. We can walk away.
