1 John 3:4 says that “sin is the transgression of the law.” And every one of us has broken that law. We could never pay that debt through better behavior, greater obedience, or trying harder. But don’t stop at verse 4. Verse 5 says, “And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.” Jesus came and paid the price for sin that we could never pay ourselves. The sinless One took our place so that those who believe in Him could receive His righteousness. That’s why my confidence isn’t in how perfectly I keep God’s law. My confidence is in the One who fulfilled it and took away my sins. So here’s the question: Are you still looking at your sin to determine who you are, or are you looking at what Christ accomplished for you?

God takes delight in those who have accepted the free gift of salvation through His Son, Jesus and love God with all their heart, soul, and mind, as well as loving others and themselves. Surely, believers must transform by renewing their minds to deny worldliness and the workings of the flesh. Believers must strive to live holy! For true believers, the in dwelling of the Holy Spirit makes it impossible for them to want to remain sinful. But when faced with their certain imperfections, they abide in God’s mercy which offers them repentance followed by His forgiving grace. So, have a heart of love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control.
