As a consumer if I put a deposit down to hold something I have no problem with it being non refundable especially if that was communicated from the beginning. That’s what a deposit is for because you may miss out on selling the camper in the mean time. Now never put deposits down. That camper is not the only one available unlike most salesman like to say to get you to put down a deposit. That’s a tactic to play on emotions and I don’t make big purchases based off emotions. If I don’t get that camper I will find one I want. With you or someone else. But I do agree that salesman do get their time wasted so if you put a deposit down then the salesman should keep it and no modification should made to the camper until the dotted line is signed and the unit is sold. If you’re doing add ons and mods for a customer that hasn’t signed yet that’s just not smart business practices.

If you put a deposit on anything and expect it to be "held", that deposit is not refundable... because legally if you put a deposit on it and they sell it to someone else, they are obligated to find a comparable camper, car, etc. for you

Most good dealers , will go over the upgrades , provide the customer a work order and due bill . Deposits are always refundable . Most states and credit card issuers error on the side of the consumer .

Wrong. I tell all of my customers the second you hand me money you are not getting it back if you decide to change your mind. The customer will always have a credit on file under their name.

Finding reputable dealer is harder than finding a good RV. So if any dealer ask for a deposit to hold a rig……ask questions before doing so! Almost all will not refund it after you look or inspect the camper and decide not to proceed with the sale……they’ll most likely keep it and use the excuse that they could have sold it if it didn’t have a hold on it.

I agree, service needs to be paid, parts needs to be paid. You put money down and ask for other people to work on something you wanna buy you are going to pay for it; even if you don't buy it.
