Outside the glass walls of the high-rise, rain continued to pour in heavy sheets, blurring the city skyline into streaks of gray and silver.  Inside the small elevator, the air had shifted — no longer stiff or awkward, but warm, comfortable, and strangely peaceful.  “So…” This time, Miu spoke first. “This really is your first day?”  Lena nodded enthusiastically, her energy infectious. “Finally got hired. It wasn’t easy — I’ve been sending applications for months, almost gave up more than once.”  “Good thing you didn’t,” Miu said softly.  “Figured giving up doesn’t pay rent, so I kept going.”  Something in Miu’s eyes softened. She knew exactly what it felt like to carry weight on your shoulders.  To the outside world, her life looked polished, perfect, without a single flaw — but behind closed doors, every day came with impossible expectations, endless responsibilities, and a pressure that never truly let up.  Success always came at a cost.  “What about you?” Lena asked, curious now. “Do you work here too?”  “I do.”  “Which department?”  Miu hesitated for barely a second, just long enough to be noticeable. “Management.”  “Ah.” Lena nodded understandingly. “So you’re one of the ‘scary bosses’ everyone whispers about in the break room.”  Miu’s lips twitched again. “I’ve been called far worse.”  “I can imagine. Well, just so you know — I promise I’ll be a good employee. Hardworking, punctual, no trouble at all.”  “You haven’t even started yet,” Miu pointed out, amused.  “Exactly. So I still have time to set a good impression.”  Another quiet pause settled between them — but this time, it felt natural, like two people who didn’t need words to feel at ease. Lena let her gaze wander over Miu again: her posture, her calm elegance, the quiet confidence that seemed to wrap around her like a second skin. Everything about her looked effortless, as if she belonged exactly where she stood.  And yet… She looks lonely.  The thought surprised Lena.  Where had that come from? Maybe it was in Miu’s eyes — beautiful, deep, but carrying a quiet sadness, like something she’d carried for years and never let anyone see.  Before Lena could ask anything more, the elevator suddenly jolted sharply. The lights flickered once, twice, then dimmed. Caught off balance, Lena stumbled forward — and Miu’s arm shot out instantly, catching her firmly before she could crash into the wall.  For one heartbeat, time seemed to stop.  Their faces were only inches apart. Lena could feel the warmth radiating from Miu, could hear her own heartbeat thudding loud in her ears.  Miu’s hand rested lightly but securely on her upper arm, her touch steady and grounding.  “Are you alright?” Miu asked, her voice low and gentle, close enough to feel like a whisper.  Lena blinked, her mind going briefly blank. “Y-Yeah. I’m fine, just… not very graceful, apparently.” She let out a nervous, breathless laugh.  Miu slowly withdrew her hand, though she didn’t step back immediately. “I’m glad you didn’t fall.”  “Me too.”  Neither moved away right away, as if some invisible thread held them in place — until the intercom crackled again, breaking the spell.  “Power restored. Doors opening now.”  With a soft hum, the elevator rumbled back to life, and the doors slid smoothly apart.  Bright office light flooded in from the hallway, where two maintenance workers stood waiting.  “Sorry for the delay,” one said.  “Thank you,” Miu replied politely, stepping out first.  Lena followed, feeling suddenly self-conscious again. “Well… I guess this is where we go our separate ways.”  Miu turned to look at her, a faint, genuine smile this time.  “I suppose so. It was nice meeting you, Lena.”  “Nice meeting you too, Miu.”  For a second, it felt like both of them wanted to say more — to ask for a number, or where to find each other later — but neither did.  Instead, they turned and walked in opposite directions down the corridor.   continuation ➡️ Comment Section ⤵️ #miunatsha #lenalalina #fypシ #LenaMiu #fyp
