@skyehitchcock: Replying to @Lauren | SAHM why our kids are going to school after 4 years of homeschool 🤍 I know not everyone will agree with these reasons but I think school should be a family decision based on each kid each year. #homeschool #backtoschool #motherhood #momtok
I think that’s the point- homeschool when it’s necessary, public/private when necessary! Seasons change and as parents we know what our kids need!

So felt this. If we were in a better school district, we would have likely done school this year. It’s one of the main reasons we’re hoping to move 😅

This is the exact reason I stopped homeschooling. It was miserable for me and my kiddos. They went to school at 2nd and 5th grade and are still going! They are going into 9th and 12th grade now. They are thriving!

Every child and family is different, what works for one may not work for all. We are in the opposite boat, we are trying school this year for Kindergarten but open to the idea of homeschooling in the future. Thank you for sharing this and reminding me this doesn’t have to be a permanent decision! ❤️

Aren’t your kids just 7 and 5? They should be doing very little “book” work at those ages.

Is it a legal requirement to follow a curriculum in the US? I’m home educating in UK and there is no requirement to follow a curriculum. Many do anyway but especially in the early years it’s common not to be so structured with workbook style learning.

School is gonna take awhile for them to regulate to if they aren’t used to it. My mom pulled my brother out in 3rd grade because all the boys in his class were mean to him. He only

I feel this in my soul. My kids are going back to school this year and we're honestly all excited. I think it's time for them to have space away from each other. They also hated homeschooling anyways and I was like

I homeschooled my kiddos for 4 years as well & this will be their second year going to traditional school. It’s such a mix of feelings for me as well sending them but we will also be taking it year by year. Wishing them an awesome school year!

It's perfectly okay to cry. It's a new change and it's gonna be an adjustment for everybody at first. Don't give up and keep just showing up and loving your kids, they know you love them

Awe your a great mom and you know what’s best for your children and you. There’s no shame in changing things around if it’s not working. I’m sure they will adapt and have an amazing year! 💗

Can you share their ages? I plan to homeschool mine and let them make the choice as well, but want to know at what age they’ll start to get curious about public school 💖

This is exactly why I’m not homeschooling my 5 yr old (at least not right now). My son fights me over writing his name. I can’t imagine doing a curriculum with him at this time. He also LOVES school and keeps asking to go. So we will see how kindergarten goes

At the end of the day protecting your relationship with your child matters the most. I am so impressed by protecting the relationship and making a change for a hopeful better outcome! Keep us posted?!

We went back to public school this year too. It was really hard on me but I felt like I would be a better mom if I just had to be their mom and not everything.

Yes! I look at us homeschooling as flexible. The second it's not right for us we can adjust. My son does do some classes at a school but that's one afternoon a week. Last year it was two afternoons. Also he's only in first grade.

I admire your + your husband’s decision to do what’s right for everyone! Many parents push one option or the other without truly thinking about what would be the most beneficial

I had the same issue with my son. My daughter did homeschool for 2 years. I tried with my son for 1 year and everyday was a fight - he also ended up getting wildly behind and 5 years later he is still struggling. It sucks. I feel horrible. But you are doing the right choice!

Here in Florida we have “homeschool academies” where is it’s like 2,3,4,5 days a week, whatever works for your family and then super super small “classes” a lot of homesteading based ones, no tech etc.

This makes so much sense and is really encouraging to me. This year I have one in public, one in private, and 2 in homeschool….and I’m trying to stay open minded. The one changing over to a small private school is an excellent student, but was not excelling in homeschool and I think he will thrive….but it can be hard to acknowledge it wasn’t a good fit. I’m all for making it work for everyone involved, mom included!

Crying because this is where we are. It’s so hard. School is a fight every day. But our local school district isn’t good and we don’t have private options because we’re so rural😭
