Dispare cash-ul odată cu apariția Euro Digital? Răspunsul scurt: nu. Banii fizici nu dispar. Gândește-te la Euro Digital ca la bancnota din buzunar, dar mutată pe telefon. Diferența importantă este că Euro Digital va fi emis direct de Banca Centrală Europeană. Practic, va fi o formă digitală de bani ai băncii centrale, similar numerarului. În schimb, banii din contul bancar sunt bani ținuți la o bancă comercială, iar depozitele sunt protejate, în anumite limite, prin sistemele de garantare. Un alt avantaj este că Euro Digital este gândit să permită și plăți offline, fără conexiune la internet, apropiindu-se astfel și mai mult de modul în care folosim astăzi numerarul. Calendarul discutat în prezent prevede începerea unor teste tehnice în 2027, iar o posibilă lansare este estimată pentru 2029. Se discută și despre o limită de deținere, posibil în jurul valorii de 3.000 de euro. Asta înseamnă că Euro Digital nu este gândit să înlocuiască depozitele bancare sau să fie folosit pentru economii foarte mari. Ideea principală este simplă: numerarul nu dispare.
