My heart is full. ❤️🗽 Sometimes, life gives you a moment to look back and realize just how many people helped you get to where you are. This year has been remarkable. My husband and I are returning from an unforgettable trip to New York City, where I had the incredible honor of being recognized for my fundraising efforts with Blood Cancer United. And while my name may have been attached to that recognition, I can assure you — this was never a one-woman effort. Not one bit. Earlier this year, I set out on a mission to make a difference for families facing blood cancer. What started as a 10-week fundraising campaign became something so much bigger than I ever imagined. Together, we raised more than $225,000 through our team’s campaign (we still have money coming in) helping our Kansas community reach an extraordinary $500,000 milestone. That $500,000 was what a small group of teams raised, thanks to the incredible leadership of Tiffany, Marc, Jamie, Rhonda, David and Ruth. We were supported by what felt like an Army — special thanks to Phil, Glenn, April, Sandy, Pam, Alli, Jessica, Tabitha, Suzy, Tran and Jean. My sisters Rebecca and Kim rallied great ideas and volunteered a ton, among countless others. But here's what I hope people remember: It was never just about the money. It was about the people. People we didn’t know, especially. The families fighting for another birthday. The patients praying for another chance. People like my uncle Glenn and a girl I did a story on many years ago, Reece. The loved ones we carry in our hearts too! The hope that research, treatments and compassion can give someone more time. This trip, I met with the leading researchers who are breaking ground on treatments fitting for kids and finding preventative cancer measures. Yes, ways to tackle cancer before that diagnosis! To my husband: Thank you for standing beside me through this wild adventure. Tim had so much patience… amid the encouragement, the sacrifices and the countless ways he supported this effort. To our sponsors, donors, volunteers, businesses, friends, family and complete strangers who became friends along the way: YOU made this possible. You bought cinnamon rolls. You attended events. You donated auction items. You shared posts. You opened doors. You gave your time, your talents and your hard-earned money. Some of you gave quietly, never expecting a single bit of recognition. I saw every act of kindness, and I will never forget it. I still have many thank you posts coming. So much gratitude. I wish I could have packed every single one of you into my suitcase and brought you to New York with me. Because you deserved to be celebrated, too! I've always believed that one person can make a difference. But this experience taught me something even more powerful: One person can start something. A community can turn it into something extraordinary. I went to New York with my husband, but I carried a whole lot of Kansas with me. ❤️ Thank you for believing in this mission. Thank you for believing in me. And most importantly, thank you for giving hope to people who need it most. The trip may be over, but the mission certainly isn't. Not today, cancer. Not today. ❤️ #BloodCancerUnited #VisionaryOfTheYear #KansasForACure #NotTodayCancer #Gratitude
