Basically, Parker’s position is that he isn’t claiming to know how the universe was created. He’s saying that he doesn’t know, Jaws is the one making the positive claim that God exists and that God is responsible for creating the universe. That means the burden of proof falls on Jaws. Parker doesn’t have to prove what created the universe because he never claimed to know what did. Jaws is the one introducing an extraordinary claim, so he has to provide evidence for it. And this is what I don’t understand about the debate. Did you ever notice that Jaws never actually provided a relevant argument or evidence establishing the existence of God? That was literally his burden. The entire point of the debate was for him to substantiate the claim he was making. Parker saying, “I don’t know what caused the universe,” doesn’t somehow make Jaws’ explanation true. Not knowing the answer to a question is not evidence for someone else’s answer. If Jaws wants to argue that God created the universe, he has to establish the existence of God first. Parker doesn’t have to disprove God just because Jaws hasn’t proven him. Parker can also deny the PSR because the Principle of Sufficient Reason is itself a philosophical premise, not an established fact. He isn’t obligated to accept “everything must have an explanation” without sufficient justification for that principle. So basically there is multiple ways the universe could have happened he does not have to accept just that 1 possibility that includes magic people and unicorns. Parker never ran he simply was never provided with an argument that proposed the fact of god was real.
