Saber after she became King basically killed her emotions. She believed that a King should be a tool that sacrifices all for the kingdom, even their humanity. Shouldering all the burdens, handling all the problems, never asking for help or anything in return and never showing emotion. It got to the point her people thought she either wasn’t human or was insane. Even her own knights couldn’t understand her. She made cold logical decisions that were ultimately for the kingdom’s best interest. Like starving her own villages so invaders couldn’t occupy them and could be driven off. Iskander is saying a King needs to be selfish, to pursue their dreams without restraint. To shine brightly and inspire with their radiance. While Artoria just solved every problem for her people without inspiring them to stand for themselves. But he was a conqueror not a king. His people followed him because they thought he was amazing and a beacon of glory. But once his conquest actually started failing towards the end his men began betraying him. And his kingdom fell apart immediately after he died because he never actually ruled properly and just focused on conquering and expanding his empire. Gilgamesh was ironically the best king out of the 3. He was absolutely shit when he was young and was a tyrant. But after his journey for immortality his kingdom was the only one that lasted after his death. Because he established infrastructure and lead his people properly unlike Iskander. And realized his legacy would be his people’s futures and the spirit of his nation living on even after it ended rather than trying to perpetuate it forever no matter what like Artoria. And Iskandar insults Artoria because he’s pissed she wants to rewrite her history. He finds it disrespectful to all the people who walked alongside her and supported her since he valued his men who followed him to the end

When we REALLY think about it Rider had a MUCH greater impact on the series of fate then most other characters simply because he inspired Waver who later went on to train, teach, influence and help SO MANY other characters in the series.

Saber although “seemingly” wrong ruled a head of others. Almost like she was “carrying” her country on her back. Iskander ruled with his people “carrying” him almost like his people lived and serve for only him whilst Gilgamesh ruled separate to his people as he believed the king and the people must be separated but the people must adorn and look up to the king. All three ways are right but unfortunately no “Human” can rule with all 3 methods. This is one of my favourite scenes in Fate ‼️

the best part of this is none of them are wrong. it's a reflection of how they want to serve and protect their nation.

as epic as this was, I can't agree with Iskandar. true, he described tyrannical kings from the past, but that's not the way the head of a kingdom should behave. he should take care of his people and his knights. imo, a king shouldnt inspire feat , but respect. not hars but just. working with and for his people

Ignoring the Vn/zero inconsistencies, the entire point of the banquet of the kings was an ideological clash between Saber and Iskander where both of their ideologies were inherently flawed. She was raised to be the perfect king and was given the duty to revive a country which was already on the brink of ruin, something Iskandar and Gilgamesh couldn’t understand. It was never about a better king when all their rule ended up with the ruin of their kingdom. In short for Gilgamesh his kingdom fell by his tyranny and arrogance. Iskander was someone who only held his rule together by the virtue of his charisma but once he died his entire kingdom fell apart because he never cared for his people for enough to make them sustain by themselves. Both have their own flawed way as in ruling a kingdom and especially for Saber’s circumstances where she wanted to sustain her kingdom despite being prophesied to fall by the kingdom itself. Her own struggles of loving her people yet steeling her heart is established because her own suffering gained prosperity to her kingdom, remaining an ideal king while her kingdom was imperfect. The problem is Iskander’s pride makes him unable to see his own as wrong and Saber being written to be more naive and childish, someone in the zero LN who struggled with philosophical challenges, obsessed with chivalry and would cry to Irisviel about not having her head held high compared to Gilgamesh.

nothing is by definition bad, good and bad are all in context, that is the entire point of this speech, a word having a negative connotation in your head means nothing to an actions morality or goodness, you could be greedy for money which most would view as bad, or you could be greedy for your spouses affection which most would consider good, youre still being greedy, the state hasn't changed but the context has. he is intentionally larger than life, his greed shows his people that greed is ok, that happiness is ok, that rage is ok, he shows his people that this is what you can strive for, that the person his people likely compare themselves to feels the same feelings they do and thats ok. on the other hand saber is a martyr, she shows her people that the person they should look up to, the one who they should strive to be like only suffers, only fights for someone else, it shoes her people that their role model who they should want to become is a caricature of suffering, not a person, not someone human with real flaws

The person that made Fate Zero hates Artoria and made her waver during the meeting, she was more certain of her ideals and beliefs in the source material

Sabers ideology of a King is less a King and more like a public servant. She basically acts a president or prime minister is supposed, while Iskander and Gilgamesh are true Kings. If you watch any of the FGO series, you see how the way Gil rules matches the way Iskander says a King should be.

Alexander's words are actually true when you think about it deeply. It's not enough to just save someone from damnation, you also have to guide and lead them in order to show them a path in which they should take which will lead them to true salvation. Good parents do this by not only helping their children through their formative years but guiding them through life until they become adults. God himself after delivering the children of Israel from the land of their captivity also had to guide and teach them during the wilderness period and after. So yes, it's not enough to just save someone. what if they were to go back to being oppressed or disillusioned with their salvation and think it to be selfishness from your part. You also have to lead them. A king needs to know when to lead and when to sacrifice himself for the greater good. Even when Yahusha himself was on earth, the led the disciples and taught them all the ways of the heavenly father until it came time to lay down his life. So yes, while atoria's actions were noble, it was not truly based on reality. It really was just the delusions of a little girl forced to become a leader of an empire.
