I wish i did accutane sooner bc it wouldve minimized my pitted scars! I also have dry eyes so i did a lower dose for a longer amount of time and experienced almost no side effects

Since you have to be on birth control for Accutane anyways would it be worth trying a new form of birth control for a few months first?

I was on accutane and was also nervous about getting pregnant after. The dr said to wait a month after to be extra cautious but it wasn’t necessary. The vitamin A is what causes birth defects and it leaves your system pretty fast

I wish I did it sooner. I waited till I was 28 because of all the fear mongering about mood side effects so I have a lot of scarring from cystic acne. It cured my acne, it's been about 2 years now and I'm still acne free. I still get some spots now and then so I'm using epi duo for the acne + anti aging. I don't want kids but you can have kids when you stop the meds, it doesn't do anything to your reproductive health but getting pregnant while on it would cause severe birth defects. In the UK you don't have to be on birth control, you just sign something saying you understand the risks and you'll use condoms

i haven't had acne, but i know the body gives you signs if something is wrong. so personally id want to get to the bottom of why i have acne and not just use medicine to mask a potential real problem.

Doing accutane changed my life. I struggled with cystic acne for so long and watching videos back pre-accutane, I can’t believe how I accepted it as my norm. I know it was painful, red, textured, etc. but I really just learned to live with it.

i did x2 6mo rounds when i was 23-24, and i managed to tick off nearly every side effect in the book (dry AF, eye infections, mood dips, etc) but i do think it was sooo worth it. my breakouts are 1 zit or pimple now. i basically would liberally apply aquaphor, unscented lotion, and eye drops multiple times a day and that helped with most side effects. i do recommend not wearing face/lip makeup bc brushes hurt my skin from how dry it was so thats a consideration. also the federal regulations for the medication are super annoying and strict, but if you don’t like needles/blood tests (for the pregnancy test) some derms will let you do a urine test instead!!

I'm currently on Accutane now and I love it. it's definitely worth it for me and I'm 29 now. It is a commitment but it's not forever and the side effects are not as bad as they are made out to be

If it seems to be hormonal maybe you should get your hormones checked and see what's off and then you can try to fix those first

I took Accutane in my early 20s and now have 2 healthy kids. I also didn't struggle with infertility or anything like that. I don't know what the studies and research say so I might be an anomaly 🤷♀️Also just for future information, although Accutane dramatically helped my acne, I still struggle with it. Especially during pregnancy and postpartum.

I took accutane when I was 28 and it was the best decision I could’ve made for myself. I wasn’t on it for more than 6 months and my side effects were pretty mild. My skin was pretty clear for a year after, but then I started breaking out a bit again and it turns out I have PCOS. Since then, I’ve started spironolactone and I’m back to where I was with clear skin. My mental health greatly improved as a result! As far as kids, my doctor explained it was not something I really had to worry about after taking accutane but i haven’t tried conceiving so I can’t help much there.

Accutane is honestly magic. There are a lot of people trying to scare people away from doing accutane on TikTok, but it honestly helps so many people.

I cried like four different times during that appointment when my doctor offered to do Accutane.. I was so on the fence but then I just went for.. best decision ever! But my only advice is do not wait till your 40s to do it ..I was 41 when I did it and yes the side effects were a little brutal.. I think if you’re younger you’re gonna fare better with the side effects and always remember you will be monitored month after month if anything weird comes up or something that you can’t handle ..the doctors will be there to help you

I did I think 9 months of accutane in high school. (Sorry, I know that’s not entirely helpful here) At the time, I was resistant because my acne wasn’t ~that~ bad in my head and the meds seemed like a HUGE deal. My side effects were pretty mild:kind of dry, needed chapstick for the first time religiously, and of course sun sensitivity. I would never want to do it over the summer. I haven’t had a big, below the skin pimple since and it’s been 14 years.

I never had a problem with acne so idk how it is mentally but where do you wanna end up? like is the goal to have perfect skin or are you ok with it just being managed? that changes the answer I think

Doing accutane personally changed my life. I’ve been off of it for a few years now and while I still get some acne here and there it’s nothing compared to what I use to get before. I’m also so much more confident and comfortable with my skin.

From what I understand about accutane is that you dont want to take it and get pregnant whilst on the medication because there is a chance it can cause birth defects, however there is no data to suggest that it would cause any birth abnormalities after you finish your course. Many of the disclaimers are on the conservative side since there isnt research to show that it won't have any impact, but as I said there isnt research to say that there is a direct causal link

i’m on month 3 using accutane at 25, but at a low dose. As a scrip, it only causes birth defects during and directly after use. Using a non hormonal IUD and condoms, I feel safe. I make sure to follow instructions and book an eye doc appt at the midway mark to ensure that my eyes are still healthy because that’s more important to me. I’ve seen a huge improvement though, and as someone who was very used to a lot of acne and not very self conscious, it has been a treat to have clearer skin !
