During WW2 how many people died in Europe and Japan.... How about WW2.... How about the British punitive wars all over Africa from 1880 and 1930. The Chinese food crisis during the great leap forward was exactly that, a draught due to several factors and not deliberately by the Chinese government....

During 1930's there was a conflict between 2 political parties after they split from one. A very minor struggle before Japan invaded. They immediately halted their struggle to fight Japan. After WW2 the 2 restarted which became a real civil war. Casualty about 1 million but on the 2 armies, not on population. Mao won the civil war and began to implement his version of Communism. It largely failed after 2 decades because no economic system can succeed when the country was already busted up. That failure triggered a farming shortfall, then a famine due to a horrific draught. Total deaths less than 20 million. The total deaths due to China political trouble from 1900 - 1980 is less than 20 million, 5 million of which due to fighting invasion from 7 countries in 1900 which include the USA. The biggest cause of deaths during the 8 decades, by far, is the Japan invasion.

Besides the conflating of the Great Famine and the Great Leap Forward is literally western propaganda. China was going to experience that famine regardless, and it would not have been any less deadly under the feudal warlord conditions previously, nor had they become just another country conquered and exploited by western imperialism.

The whataboutism are cute, but the 50 million was not due to the civil war before Mao took over. The claim is tens of millions (between 40 and 80 million) were killed by Mao either through forced industrialization, political purges, state violence, bad policy. Stuff like that. Not one other person has been credited with as much death. It’s pretty crazy. So it’s fair to point that out. When ppl respond with “oh yah the us is bad too” ya just look silly.
