@laforest.kreative: No, it's not the jet lag, it's not packing... Nobody warned me that the person I planned the whole trip with, would disappear ten days before my flight. I met them in the States while they were here visiting their family and they were living in London and invited me to come stay. So I booked it. Eight months that flight sat on my phone. Eight months of budgeting around it, planning around it, telling everyone about it. Then, ten days out, nothing. No explanation. No replies. Just gone. Everyone I told said cancel. Eat the cost. You can't fly to a country where you don't know a single person. A lot of them said I was crazy. A few said I was brave, but in the way people say it when they mean "I would NEVER" I went anyway. I landed in London with no host, no real plan, and nobody's number in my phone. Then I stayed there for 2 weeks before deciding to extend my trip to Germany, because at that point - what was stopping me?! Here's what actually surprised me: being alone somewhere nobody knew me was the least lonely I'd felt in years. Everyone I met over there kept saying they couldn't believe I'd just gotten on a plane by myself. Back home it was "you're insane." Over there it was "you're brave." Two years later I still talk to the friends from all around the world that I made on that trip. The person who ghosted me, I couldn't care less about. They ended up doing me a favor, because I would have never met the amazing people who crossed my path on that journey. The plan was never the trip. It just took losing the plan to find that out.
