@cindydoedee: all challenges come with failures. someone pls teach us how to fish!!! it's day 94 of boycotting conventional grocery stores. why am i not shopping at grocery stores? i know i won't be perfect, but this is what i'm tryna do: 1. i want to be more mindful & critical of my consumption, be closer to my food source & develop relationships with/through food 2. i want to support local and divert $ from multinational corporations 3. i want to reduce plastic consumption when it comes to the fishing industry, here are some issues i've learned about: - Overfishing: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reports that "more than one-third of global fisheries are overfished. Over the past 50 years, the number of overfished areas has tripled. " - Bycatch: Billions of unwanted fish, alongside hundreds of thousands of dolphins, sea turtles, and sharks, are killed unintentionally by commercial gear. (WWF) - Habitat Destruction: Bottom trawling damages up to 95% of impacted deep-sea floor environments, destroying coral reefs and stirring up carbon-heavy sediment. (Nat Geo) - Hidden Activity: About 75% of global industrial fishing activity is effectively undisclosed or hard to monitor due to a lack of public vessel tracking.
