Dyeing with black tea!! One of my favorite natural dyes because it’s easy, quick, and makes textiles a really nice vintage looking tan. Black tea is a great beginner dye too since it doesn’t require additional mordants (a pre-soak process to make the color last longer). Has anyone else done this before? What’s your favorite ingredient to dye with?! • How to dye with black tea 1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil (stainless steel is best- this is an old crab pot that was perfect for the job). 2. Add black tea bags (I used 20 tea bags to lightly dye 3 jackets. You can use more or less depending on the shade of tan you want). 3. Let steep for 30 minutes to an hour 4. Remove tea bags (this prevents them from accidentally breaking open while you dye). 5. Add wet garment 6. Stir and let soak until you get your desired color (I did 15 minutes for this one). 7. Remove and rinse until the water runs clear 8. Hang dry 9. Wash & dry as normal 10. Ta-da! All done. • Let me know if you try this at home, I’d love to see everyone’s results!! ✨😍 • #naturaldyes #dyeingwithplants #diycrafts #diyfashion #OOTD #dyeing #blacktea #chorecoat #handmade
