I see a lot of confused muslims here and non muslims debating what free or limited free will is. A good example is imagine you're rewatching a football game, you know what's going to happen and when it'll happen, that doesn't affect the outcome of the game though. Similar to this, Allah exists outside the bounds of time and he has seen everything unfold from the creation of everything to its end and all our lives in it. He knows what we will do with our free will, our choices and so on, that's part of his perfect knowledge. With that perfect knowledge, he wrote down everything that we would do with our free will. So it's not that Allah is forcing us to live a certain way or make certain choices, it's him knowing what we would do and writing it down and we follow what was written down because that's how we would live our lives. it's also not something we can deviate from. Apart from that, Allah governs everything that allows us to use our free will for example our bodies, our environment, opportunities presented to us, the weather, seasons, gravity and so on. we muslim have free will, islam via sharia, is to make sure our free will safe,better for the life journey. ie : alcohol is bad for health, so islam put a law(sharia) for muslim not to drink so our life journey safe,better. there are many choices of drinks other than alcohol, free to choose something safe.
