I went to a pwi middle/high school and they use to draw pictures of blacks being hung and would post them on the vending machines. There was even a blacks vs. whites fight. I’ll never forget being in middle school we were reading to kill a mockingbird and the teacher would blatantly read the N word all eyes would be on me. I told her it made me uncomfortable she said it’s okay because it’s printed in black and white..hated it completely traumatized!

My dad do that all the time and I always have to tell him to look outside his own circle and stop using himself as the standard for what’s normal for everybody else

I was at a PWI from 7th grade until high school graduation. It was hella racist, but I maintained utilizing my community. Meaning, once I left school, I was back with people like me that I could relate to culturally.

I was the only one at a 8th grade Halloween party and the white mom told me I was hi, she started telling everyone at the party ,and started making a joke of me. she made me lay down on a ottoman in front of the whole party and put eye drops in my eyes.I was then looked at as the pothead for all of high school.

Hearing some of their stories is wild. I grew up in a diverse community but had a VERY BLACK upbringing. After regular school my mom sent us to the Muslim community school where we learned everything about our history and heritage. We weren’t even religious but she knew they would get us straight. I learned so much black history with them. Then she didn’t let us play with them other kids. The only time we saw them was in school. Outside of that my life was black only. Now days too many black parents let their kids just go off anywhere with yt folks. It’s crazy.

I grew up in Dixie County I was made to piss on myself by a white teacher who was later made to apologize to me after my mom came and threatened to sue the school board.
