Off the top of my head, pareidolia is an easy example where we are evolved to favor the perception of a falsehood over the truth. The mere fact that our species as a whole sees faces where there are none is directly attributable to the fact that our ancestors that saw predators quickest were the ones most likely to pass on their genes.

the religious guy is so close. yes, believing a falsehood can absolutely help with survival. Humans are social. A tribe of them, believing a falsehood, leads to acting cohesively, which leads to better odds of survival for the whole group.

I like how his "serious problem with atheism" is just saying he doesn't want to consider the fact he might be wrong about stuff. to be fair, it IS kinda scary to acknowledge our brains have biases and flaws. if only we had some sort of system we could rely on to make sure what we believe is reproducibly true

There are butterflies that take a long way across a lake because millions of years ago there used to be a mountain and the butterflies still think there is a mountain so they reroute themselves instead of going straight because of it. So yeah… evolution

We see falsehoods all the time. Our visions is the best example. We get tricked by optical illusions. We have blind spots our brain fills in. But also we literally manipulate our own memories to satisfy our beliefs. Approaching sounds feel closer than those moving away, even if at the same distance. Men tend to overestimate women's sexual interest in them, because it helps confidence. And the biggest of all, religion itself. we attribute agency to all events. We believe in spirits even outside of religion because we want to believe things have intention.

2 mistakes, 1 atheism is not an answer because it didn't come from an analysis or from evidence (and no for thing such big as a divinity outside the cosmos saying you have the load of prove is not an answer), 2 falsehood could also be seen as normal instincts and not only literally watching the material world

Evolution only selects for actions that keep you alive, not whether your mental beliefs are actually true - it rewards fitness payoffs, not ontological truth. Even if you argue that survival requires reliable local mapping to navigate the environment, that only applies to basic physical threats. It does zero work to guarantee that our brains are reliable for abstract metaphysical claims. Second, saying "I don’t assume my brain is reliable, I check it against reality" is textbook circular reasoning. What are you checking reality with? The exact same brain, logic, and senses whose reliability is in question! And before the "well, theists are circular too" objection: there’s a massive difference between unavoidable foundational trust and holding a worldview that gives you an active, self-generated defeater. If your origin story says your cognitive tool wasn’t built for truth, using that tool to declare itself reliable is a total logical loop. Third, you literally pointed out that our brains are riddled with cognitive biases and are terrible at abstract logic and probability. You argued that we need science and logic as "scaffolding" to correct our flawed brains. Sure, science corrects local empirical errors. But science is a methodological tool - it doesn't prove metaphysical naturalism. The leap from "science works" to "only physical nature exists" is an abstract philosophical conclusion made by that same evolved brain. If our brains are that bad at abstract thinking, why trust them when they conclude that metaphysical naturalism is true? Naturalism is a massive abstract claim, not a basic survival instinct. EAAN doesn’t claim naturalism is false or that truth never helps survival. It shows that unguided evolution gives the naturalist an inescapable global defeater. If your worldview is true, you have no rational ground to believe it’s true.
