@geetarworldofficial: Guns N’ Roses signed with Geffen Records in late March 1986 (most sources cite March 25 or 26), after a short but intense period of label interest on the Los Angeles club scene, primarily driven by Geffen A&R executive Tom Zutaut. Zutaut (who had previously signed Mötley Crüe) first became aware of the band through a poster or recommendation (accounts vary slightly, including from record-store owner Joseph Brooks/Vinyl Fetish or a tape passed along). He saw them at the Troubadour around February 28, 1986. Impressed after just a couple of songs (including material like “Welcome to the Jungle”), he recognized their potential as a raw rock ’n’ roll band rather than typical hair metal. To throw off competing A&R people present, he reportedly downplayed the band afterward while privately pushing hard to sign them. He told Geffen executives (including David Geffen) they could be bigger than Led Zeppelin and secured approval for a deal. #gunsnroses #geffen #appettitefordestruction #welcometothejungle #geetarworld
My dad found my Appetite for Destruction cassette tape and made me smash it in the driveway with a hammer. 😡

I lowkey wish hard rock would go mainstream again like in the late 80's.

I’m not so sure that GNR is or was bigger than The Rolling Stones though.

I was one of those kids! Everything changed when the WTTJ video was released. There may never be another band to have the impact that GNR had.

MTV was the gatekeeper of success. From the mid 80s to the mid 90s they could make or break anything. They controlled the music industry.

I can understand the hype when Welcome to the Jungle was first heard. I didn’t get inti GNR to the early 90s, but the first time I heard Welcome to the Jungle I was hooked and fell in love with Guns N’ Roses
