;; #WW2 // #WOMEN // #RESISTANCE ;; Okay, just to remind you that there were many more women who defied the expectations of the time without serving an imperialist and invading power, and who had much more dignity. No, Lyudmila Pavlinchenko didn't kill "fascists." Most of her casualties were in Odessa (or so it is believed), where the enemy were NOT German units, but Romanian units. And although Antonescu's Romania had certainly allied itself with Nazi Germany after being invaded by both Germany and the USSR in 1940, and had to join Germany (which had most of the Romanian territory after giving Transylvania to Hungary) to recover Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina from the USSR (which at that time was kidnapping 20,000 people from their homes in one night to take them to the Gulag). The Romanian soldiers in Odessa and Sevastopol were often peasants forcibly recruited and forced to march through Antonescu to be dehumanized. Many were fathers, sons, brothers, and great-grandfathers of today's young Romanians. Lyudmila was a soldier in an invading army that had invaded Poland on September 17, 1939, and marched alongside the Nazis in Brest-Litovsk on September 22, 1939. Her story only served to overshadow other brave women who fought for the freedom and sovereignty of their country against both Soviet and Nazi imperialism, such as the Lithuanian partisans, the White Squadron (an elite female unit) who were persecuted by the Soviets and the Securitate at the end of the war, or the Lotta Svärd, who had to be disbanded and erased from history (or at least from everyday conversation) so that the USSR could... I accepted the armistice with Finland or war generals like Maria Wittek, far from being Lyudmila a pioneer as a woman in war, there were already women fighting in the First World War in countries like Romania or Serbia. #feminism #soldier
