@old.world.yearning: Standing at the heart of Gloucester, Gloucester Cathedral has been a place of worship for more than 900 years. The present cathedral largely dates from the 11th to 15th centuries, bringing together Norman and later Gothic architecture. Its spectacular Great East Window, soaring vaulted ceilings, medieval tombs, and intricate stonework reveal the craftsmanship of generations of medieval builders. The cathedral also became a place of royal history when King Edward II was buried here in 1330. Its cloisters are particularly remarkable, featuring some of the earliest surviving fan vaulting in England, a masterpiece of gothic architecture. #gloucester #gothic #medievalcathedral #gothicarchitecture #historicengland
