Counter point, there was bigger competition than ever. Aka the USSR, which forced the US to treat the people better

The worst thing to happened to Americans: The end of the Soviet Union....The Soviet Union forced America to be on it's best behavior in terms of helping those achieve the American dream. It was the war of ideology & America wanted to show that it's 'American dream' was real. The Soviets are gone now, so what is the motivation to keep a middle class now?

The middle class was made. It is normal to have a wide gap between rich and the poor.

Unions were strong then. People forget how much the middle class was a result of so much union participation. Labor can’t gain or hold ground with capital without a collective.

and as soon as segregation ended and Black folks were able to utilize the social safety nets that existed during this time frame, public support went away for those safety nets!

FDR stopped real socialism by giving the much needed reform he did. And we haven’t seen reform like that since because he people in power don’t need to give it

You're discarding the reality that we also had regulatory laws that checked corporations and benefited people. 🤷♂️

It’s also the result of pro-labor legislation that ended the Great Depression, and that’s gone now. I think maybe that’s how they were able to convince so many working people that communism is a bad idea.

WW2 was the main driver here, Europe was decimated and the US was one of the only countries capable of helping rebuilding. Manufacturing took off as there wasn’t any real competition and gave the US and economic boom

Wrong, that was just the global situation. Internally those 30 years were fostered by socialist policies due to competition with the Communists

The middle class was allowed to happen because the only other option was the people widely accepting communism. FDR made socialist policies in capitalism intertwined to prevent communism from happening because how bad the Great Depression had wrecked people.
