Each of them had their own dreams. They had their own loves. They had lived through childhood and youth, and held hopes for the future. Yet, hundreds of thousands went to their deaths because of conflicts between heads of state—leaders who remained in their palaces while thousands, and ultimately millions, perished day after day. If we do not want a repeat of that bloody slaughter, we must understand: we are all simply human beings. War is not about romance, nor "duty to the homeland," nor heroic feats. It is about death, suffering, and the shattered lives of millions of innocent people who could have simply lived out their one and only life. Rest in peace, all those who suffered or lost their lives because of these terrible events—because of every senseless war.
