I think this illusion works wayyyyyy better when you don't actually tap the screen, bc once you tap the screen it immediately puts a barrier up between my eye and the pencil tip in my brain and ruins the illusion.

can someone smart tell me why this illusion works? My guess is that bc we lose most of out depth perception when we close one eye we can't really tell how far it actually is but our minds convinces us that it's supposed to come closer and closer so we actually start to see it, am I close?

Yes, definitely worked. The right eye, connected to the yellow pencil was the most dominant experience. I had a bit of a struggle to keep the left/blue eye open.
