Tengo entendido que el ritual de la piñata anteriormente si era de religión, eran esferas con 7 picos con colores brillantes para representar la tentación de los pecados, te vendaban los ojos para representar la fe ciega, y cuando rompias la piñata con tu "fe" guiada por la mano de dios (el palo), lo que estaba en su interior era la recompensa (antes eran plumas con significado simbólico del reino de los cielos). Y de hecho esa versión incluso es una parodia adaptada después de la conquista, robada originalmente de culturas prehispánicas con otro significado (similar). Luego con los años la sociedad lo fue adaptando a algo más neutro y menos religioso, por eso ya son de figuras y personajes de caricatura, llenas de dulces y juguetes 🪅.

When I was a child, every year my siblings and I would be given a piñata for our birthday (4 of us-2 in September/2 in October) from our dad. I always thought it odd being a little white girl from east TN, but knew better than to question it. Fast forward to my 25th Christmas and my DAD decided to inform my little brother & I that he wasn’t actually our father & that our “real dad” was from El Salvador. 😂😂😂😂 Makes so much sense. Fkng crazy actually but THATS WHY WE GOT PIÑATAS!!!
