According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the judge calculated Edwards’ gross monthly income at nearly $4.8 million, including approximately $3.42 million from his Timberwolves salary and $1.36 million from endorsements. The court raised the payment above Minnesota’s roughly $3,200 baseline after considering the enormous difference between the parents’ finances and the standard of living Edwards can provide. Edwards must obtain approximately $2.6 million in life insurance with Descroches named as the primary beneficiary and cover more than $21,000 of her legal fees. That insurance requirement is important context: it is generally intended to protect the child’s future financial support if the paying parent dies, rather than functioning as an immediate payment to the other parent. Court documents also reportedly listed Edwards’ monthly spending at roughly $31,000 on food, $70,000 on entertainment and $30,000 on vacations. The detail drawing the most attention, however, has nothing to do with money. Edwards reportedly testified under oath that he has never met Amir in person and is not seeking parenting time. Amir was born in 2023, meaning the court can establish Edwards’ financial responsibilities even without an active personal relationship between father and son.
