Successful or not bro, the fact is, Its UBA banking school gradation ceremony. They were taught to address everyone by their first name, it’s part of the culture and it’s compulsory not negotiable. If you’ve been to school of banking or a bank you’d know this. 15years ago Herbert disengaged a girl during Access Bank graduation because she referred to him as Mr. Herbert. He defended his actions by saying, the girl didn’t address him correctly which meant she didn’t imbibe anything from the training so far and is not qualified to graduate from Access Bank school of banking. I feel like Tony Elumelu is being hypocritical, because how do you implement a system or culture that you don’t reflect or can’t relate personally. The girl only followed instructions as she’s been taught. The girl also has her own daily by not apologizing after being corrected, she just went straight to the conversation. A little apology would have made a difference. You’re talking of considering her, our mentality in Africa is the rich deserves respect no matter the circumstances, as long as you’re poor you’re at the mercy of the rich so you can be “Considered”…. This is what she was taught and she’s tucked to it.
