There is a version of this conversation that turns into blaming the people above you, and I want to steer away from it because it does nothing for your career. Whether the seat above you is occupied by choice or by necessity, the outcome for you is identical, and the only useful question is what you build while it stays occupied. ⠀ Here is what I notice about the people who come out of a frozen ladder in a better position than they went in. They stopped negotiating for the next title and started negotiating for the next responsibility. Give me the budget line. Put me on the vendor review. Let me own the number, not the deck about the number. Two years later their scope had doubled and the title eventually followed because it had to. ⠀ The people who waited did excellent work and are in exactly the same place, except now they are two years more expensive and no more promotable. ⠀ Pick one of these five and start it this month 👇 Comment
