Only locals know this secret about Taiwan 😱 Part 8 of our travel adventures in Taiwan! 🇹🇼 We didn’t realize just how fast HSR (high speed rail) tickets book out in Taiwan! Especially during holiday weekends if you don’t book train tickets multiple weeks in advance, you will not have a guaranteed reserved seat 🚄 Because we had multiple suitcases, we originally didn’t want to take the risk of not having a guaranteed seat and space to store our luggage but when we looked at taking the bus instead of the train back from Tainan to Taipei, it was going to take twice as long. So thankfully, we found this useful local hack for trying to book a high speed train ticket when there’s no reserved ones left 🙏 The hack is you can line up day of for the non-reserved train cars (3-4 train cars), but because seats are limited and it’s first come first serve. Otherwise, you might have to stand in the aisle the entire way. The way to avoid that is to make sure you get on the train as early as possible, meaning, go to the first stop and you’ll have the best chances of getting a seat there 🪑 So instead of going to the Tainan HSR station to take the train north, we actually took it from the Zuoying HSR station to be safe. Since the train originates there, the non reserved train cars were completely empty and there were plenty of seats since we were the first ones in line.
