The first thing Lena noticed when she woke up was the headache. The second was that her left shoulder hurt. The third was Miu. Lena blinked at the woman sitting beside her hospital bed and wondered if the pain medication was causing hallucinations. Miu was leaning back in the chair with her arms folded tightly across her chest. Her hair was pulled into a messy ponytail, she was wearing the clothes she'd clearly thrown on in a hurry and she looked furious. Completely and terrifyingly furious. Lena stared at her and Miu stared back, her gaze hardening into that usual look and Lena knew this was the real Miu. Lena let out a small yelp and immediately pulled the blanket over her head. There was a moment of silence before Miu tutted. “Seriously?” Lena remained hidden. Then she heard the chair move. A second later, the blanket was yanked down. Lena grabbed for it. “No.” Miu pulled it further away. “Give it back.” “You're twenty-six years old.” “I'm injured.” “You have a mild concussion and a bruised shoulder.” “Exactly. I'm extremely vulnerable.” Miu stared at her and Lena slowly stopped fighting for the blanket. “Hi.” Miu's expression didn't change. “Hi?” Lena gave her an awkward smile. Miu looked like she wanted to strangle her. Considering they hadn't spoken in almost two months, Lena had imagined their eventual reunion going differently. She hadn't imagined it happening while wearing a hospital gown. “Why are you here?” Miu's eyes widened. “Why am I here?” Lena immediately realised that had been the wrong question. “The hospital called me!” “Oh.” “At seven thirty this evening!” “Right.” “To tell me you'd been in a motorbike accident.” Lena winced. Miu leaned forward. “I thought you were dead.” “I'm clearly not.” “Don't.” Lena shut her mouth. There was something underneath Miu's anger now. Fear. Lena looked away. She noticed her dirt bike gear piled on a chair in the corner. Her jacket was filthy and one sleeve had been cut open by the paramedics. She was going to be annoyed about that later. Right now she had a bigger problem. Miu. “I forgot.” Miu frowned. “Forgot what?” Lena glanced at her. “That you're still my emergency contact.” Silence. Miu's expression changed slightly. “Oh.” “I meant to change it.” That sounded horrible. Lena immediately corrected herself.

Miu's expression changed slightly. “Oh.” “I meant to change it.” That sounded horrible. Lena immediately corrected herself. "Not because I desperately wanted to remove you or anything. I just thought after we broke up that maybe I should probably change it to someone else, but then I forgot and apparently decided to launch myself off a dirt bike instead.” Miu's eyes narrowed. “Yes. Let's talk about that.” Lena regretted mentioning the bike. “When did you start riding again?” “Recently.” “How recently?” “A few weeks or so.” Miu stared at her. “You sold your old bike.” “I borrowed a friends.” Lena shifted carefully against the pillows. Miu looked towards the gear in the corner. “I thought you said you were done with dirt bikes.” “I was.” “You haven’t ridden in years.” “I know.” “So why did you suddenly start again?” Lena picked at the edge of the blanket. “I had some free time.” Miu looked back at her. “A lot of free time, actually.” The anger disappeared from Miu's face and Lena wished she'd kept her mouth shut. Their breakup had left holes everywhere. Friday nights suddenly had nothing in them. Weekends felt twice as long. Lena had spent the first month finding reasons not to go home because the apartment was too quiet without Miu constantly talking from whichever room she happened to be in. So Lena had jumped back in with some old friends. It gave her something to do. Something that required enough concentration that she couldn't think about Miu for a few hours. “I didn't know.” Miu said quietly. Lena shrugged with her good shoulder. “You weren't supposed to.” That hurt both of them. Lena could see it. CONTINUATION IN COMMENTS ⬇️ #lenamiu #ThaiGL #wlw
