@usinthestars: I used to think that if two people really loved each other, they were supposed to hold on no matter what. That taking space meant someone was giving up, and that walking away meant whatever we had was officially over. But sometimes holding on too tightly is exactly what keeps two people from becoming who they need to become. Sometimes you need a month where you don’t know what they’re doing. You need nights where you want to reach for your phone but don’t. You need mornings where you wake up and realize you’re slowly learning how to exist without depending on their presence. Not because you stopped loving them, but because somewhere along the way love became tangled up with hurt, fear, resentment, or habits neither of you knew how to break while you were still standing right next to each other. Distance has a strange way of making things clearer. You start remembering what was beautiful without ignoring what was broken. You start recognizing the ways you could have loved them better, while also realizing the ways you deserved to be loved better too. And maybe after enough time passes, you find each other again as two people who finally understand what went wrong and are willing to do things differently. Or maybe moving on teaches you that the relationship belonged to a version of you that doesn’t exist anymore. Either way, the space wasn’t wasted. Because sometimes walking away isn’t about erasing someone from your life forever. Sometimes it’s about giving both of you enough room to heal, grow, and figure out whether the love you had is something worth coming home to.
