It’s crazy how the internet just finds something and immediately blows it out of proportion, like chic has been a term used in women’s fashion for over a century and then all of a sudden it’s everywhere and everything.

I hate how smoking has become "chic" again. It's ironic/stupid because a lot those same people invest so much in their face & teeth when smoking gradually harms those & a bunch of other things. I also think skinny culture is a bi product of that.

Its funny bc as a child my mom who was very fashionable but couldn’t care less about “fashion” used the word chic and I had no definition for it but I knew exactly what she meant whenever she said it. Now its like an onslaught of ww who got into fashion about 2yrs ago that REALLY want you to know they in fashion but just like the many “x girl aesthetics” its just whatever the seasonal thing is.

the thing that I find interesting about “chic” is literally how pointless the word is? Like compared to swag/street/boho/emo etc there’s almost no distinct chic “look” or vibe - it gets paired with anything and adds value to it… like!

this is the problem with social media that gentrifies words to promote a lifestyle, trend or product essentially a consumerist capitalist society they profit on concepts rooted in buying culture and bully you for not keeping up with the trend
