Duane "Keffe D" Davis, 63, went on trial in Las Vegas on August 17, charged with orchestrating the drive-by shooting that killed Tupac Shakur on September 7, 1996. He is the only person ever charged in the case and has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors say he supplied the gun and ordered the killing as revenge for a fight at the MGM Grand hours earlier, in which Shakur's entourage beat up Davis's nephew. Sean Combs runs through the proceedings without being part of them. In a 2008 police recording and in his 2019 memoir, Davis claimed Combs offered him a million dollars to kill Shakur and Suge Knight. Combs has never been charged in connection with the killing, and Las Vegas police have said he was never considered a suspect. He calls the claims pure fiction. Davis says he made the statements for attention and that they were untrue; prosecutors argue they were credible. A source close to the district attorney's office told the Telegraph this week that a conviction would open the door to action against Combs. That is one anonymous assessment of what might follow, not a decision by anyone. Combs is currently serving 50 months on unrelated federal charges.
