I use a plugin called “outline helper” it creates everything for you and you can press a button to make all the outlines even if it looks off on some sides

Fun fact, if you have a UV wrap and your character is textured, you can use the same texture(s) as a way to make your outline have different colors at certain parts, say grey a cuts to orange, then only the grey part will have the grey outline and same with the orange respectively

Copy and paste object, make pasted version slightly bigger, invert it, color its the outline color you want. Works but not recommended for stuff like rigged characters
