Kikimora 🆘🇺🇸 :
Man, my mom died due to malpractice and I was awarded 50k, then a week later I won my disability case and landed with 80k, and they made me spend down to 3k. I was able to put some in my Able account, thank god I found out about it, but ultimately, I feel like I squandered my life savings and they forced me to be broke. I was able to buy things I truly needed, but I was given no time to make well thought out decisions, and my plan was to squirrel most of it away so I had money to retire with, with high yield savings accounts, a little trading and Cds, but no, I can't have anything, or I'd lose what little help I get and 80k doesn't last long, even with disability benefits coming in monthly.
So, I have nothing for retirement, emergencies, 70% of my disability goes to rent, the rest goes to food, gas, supplements, premiums and co pays. they give me $24 in snap, and I can't afford my co-pays, and I have been fighting for medical assistance for 3 months and I can't even get ahold of anyone after applying.
Getting disability is supposed to relieve so much stress and be a good thing, but it really made everything worse in a million different ways.
