In Texas, a jury found in favor of plaintiffs against jones and awarded those plaintiffs $50 million. Judge said, no that’s too much, and reduced the award to $1.5 million. And the right complains about “activist judges”.

It’s important to understand that Texas has a statutory cap on Punitive damages, which’s is 750,000 per person, so 1.5 would be the correct amount. The only reason the 45.2 was allowed was because the trial judge allowed the application of an exception that the appeals court did not agree with as the factual basis wasn’t found by the jury nor put on record during trial. All procedural.
