@atsbaseball: ALDS Game 5, 1999. Through the first 3.5 innings of this game there were 16 runs scored between the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians. This was no surprise as Cleveland had scored over 1,000 runs in the regular season, the highest since 1950 and still stands today. But that came to an end in the bottom of the 4th inning, when Pedro Martinez entered the game. Pedro’s availability leading up to the game was the real story though. In game 1 he pulled his lat causing him to exit his start early and reportedly hadn’t touched a ball since that moment. While trying to warmup before game 5 he had to shut down because of the pain. When Cleveland took an 8-5 lead in the bottom of the third, it looked like they were on their way to New York to play for the American League Pennant. That was until the camera panned to the Red Sox bullpen, where Pedro Martinez was warming up. Over the next 6 innings Pedro would not allow a hit against what many people refer to as the greatest offensive lineup ever assembled. This performance capped off one of the greatest seasons in baseball history, as Pedro pitched to a 2.07 ERA across 213 IP at the height of the steroid era! Follow for more💨
