@saints_hood: Today the Church honors the Blessed Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth. Mary’s queenship flows from her unique participation in the mystery of Christ. She is the Mother of Jesus Christ, the King of the universe, and the humble handmaid who gave herself completely to God’s will. At the Annunciation, Mary answered, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.” Through her faithful yes, she became the Mother of the Savior. She remained united with Christ throughout His earthly life, standing faithfully at the foot of the Cross and sharing in the sorrow of His Passion. After her Assumption into Heaven, Mary was exalted by her Son as Queen. Her queenship is not one of earthly power or domination, but of maternal love, service, and intercession. As our spiritual mother, she continually points us toward Jesus and invites us to follow Him with faithful hearts. The Church celebrates her Queenship on August 22, one week after the Solemnity of her Assumption. The feast reminds us that the humble servant of the Lord has been glorified by God. Patronage: Mary, Queen of Heaven, is invoked as the Queen and Mother of the Church and as a powerful intercessor for Christians.
