@skribe37: Wilhelm Bittrich was a high-ranking commander in the 8th SS Cavalry Division ”Florian Geyer”. From July 1944 until the end of the war Bittrich commanded the 2nd SS Panzer Corps in Normandy, during Market Garden and in Hungary. After his arrest in May 1945, he was extradited to France to stand trial for allegedly ordering the executions of 17 members of the French Resistance. After being convicted of less serious charges in relation to the executions, Bittrich was sentenced to five years in prison. He died in April 1979 at the age of 85

Let's hope he suffered. His role at Market Garden was as bloody as in France, if not worse. He neglected every rule of war in the Geneva convention and was a hideous killer, that slaughtered the real hero's

Grande comandante, capì subito le reali intenzioni degli alleati nell’operazione Market Garden. La divisione di 10.000 uomini che prese la parte settentrionale del ponte, fu praticamente annientata e si arrese solo con 2.100 uomini. Lui permise tregue per evacuare feriti anche dietro le linee tedesche. Questo non viene ricordato perché sulle SS si getta solo fango, ma anche tra loro ci furono eroici combattenti ed eroi. Riconoscerlo non è essere nazisti, ma amare la storia e non vederla con gli stupidi libri di scuola scritti dai vincitori

Resistance fighters should have worn uniforms. Dishonorable to dress like a civilian, then kill uniformed troops. That behavior gets innocent civilians killed. Needs to be treated like a soldier that puts on the uniform of the opposing army. No different than German Special Forces dressing as MP's at Bastogne.
