The worst part is the “no child left behind” generation are now the alt right uneducated adults that are “homeschooling” their kids 😳

Kids used to TRY because it is was embarrassing to get kept back a grade. Now they know they won't be left behind no matter what so they have no real motivation to put in the effort.

Once again for the children in the back. “No child left behind” was taken away 10 years ago. So now if students are failing now it’s because the education system is failing.

Remember when we had to read paragraphs OUT LOUD as a class and the teach would correct our pronunciation? Is this not happening anymore?

Difficulty pronouncing certain words not commonly heard in everyday speech doesn’t necessarily signify illiteracy or low intelligence. Many people are well read and still struggle with pronunciation of certain words due to various reasons (accents, speech impediments, because they learned the word by reading it silently rather than phonetically).

why is the solution holding them back instead of helping them catch up with a week if they're behind?

lol. Teachers don't teach phonics. At least in 🇨🇦. And then if they struggle, teachers tell the kids to use "talk to text" and have the computer read to them.

As a teacher, administration will write you up if you give students zeros. We had to give a 50's.

I am dyslexic and I can still read really well after going through speech therapy that helps with pattern recognitions. So yes don’t blame dyslexia, I am proof we can read properly as long as the work is put in and have pride in your education and literacy level!

My kid hates that I made him continue his 20 minutes of reading over the summer, but he’ll thank me later when he realizes I was helping him avoid this embarrassment 🙃

I’m convinced they did this on purpose so they could control the masses. If they cannot read they can’t comprehend and if they can’t comprehend they rely on other. I’m a millennial that not homeschools for this very same reason. No child left behind was the worst thing that could have happened to society

To be fair, fuchsia is a pretty obscure word, but other than that yeah “epitome” “colonel” “conscientious” are all normal words I thought every adult knew 😂
