@streetcrimeuk: MAN JAILED FOR 22 YEARS AFTER GAVIN PARRY SHOT DEAD WITH SKORPION SUBMACHINE GUN A Birmingham man has been jailed for 22 years over the killing of Gavin Parry, who was shot twice in the head with a Skorpion submachine gun at an industrial estate in broad daylight. The shooting happened at an industrial unit on Western Road in Winson Green, Birmingham, on 13 April 2021 and sparked a major investigation that would continue for years. Gavin Parry, 31, had initially arrived at the premises on a quad bike and became involved in an argument with people at the site. He then left – but returned less than half an hour later. This time, CCTV showed Parry approaching the industrial unit wearing a ballistic vest and carrying a Sten-type machine gun. However, he never got the opportunity to fire the weapon. Before he could enter the unit, Parry was shot twice in the head. A firearms expert later concluded that the weapon most likely responsible for the fatal shots was a Skorpion submachine gun. Neither the Skorpion used to kill Parry nor the Sten-type firearm he was carrying has ever been recovered. (West Midlands Police) CCTV DISCONNECTED BEFORE THE SHOOTING The investigation uncovered evidence of attempts to conceal what had happened. Police established that Theo Bailey and Dante Kalsi had disconnected the CCTV system at the site before the shooting. Despite those efforts, investigators were able to obtain other footage from around the industrial estate. That footage showed Kalsi removing a concealed long object from Bailey’s unit following the shooting. Police believed the object could have been one or both of the firearms involved. Detectives also made another important discovery. A hidden hard drive containing relevant CCTV footage was recovered from the site, providing investigators with evidence surrounding the events that led to Parry’s death. (West Midlands Police) FALSE 999 ACCOUNT Following the shooting, Bailey contacted the emergency services. But investigators concluded that the account he gave during the 999 call was false. Police said Bailey attempted to mislead officers about both the circumstances surrounding the shooting and what had happened to the CCTV system. The case would eventually lead to a series of arrests, appeals and court proceedings stretching over several years. At one stage, police publicly appealed for help tracing Bailey and his brother Remell in connection with the investigation. Detectives said Parry’s family had been waiting patiently for answers about why and how he had been killed. (ITVX) AMMUNITION FOUND AT KALSI’S ADDRESS Kalsi was arrested in June 2021. During searches, officers discovered five unfired bullets compatible with a Skorpion submachine gun. Investigators also recovered a screenshot of a police press release concerning Parry’s killing and found evidence of previous internet searches relating to the conversion of firearms. Kalsi was ultimately acquitted of murder and manslaughter. However, a jury convicted him of perverting the course of justice. The 29-year-old, of no fixed address, was sentenced to three years in prison. (West Midlands Police) FOUR-WEEK MANSLAUGHTER TRIAL Bailey stood trial at Birmingham Crown Court during proceedings lasting four weeks. In November 2025, a jury cleared him of murder but found him guilty of the manslaughter of Gavin Parry, as well as perverting the course of justice. Bailey, 34, of Victoria Road, Soho, returned to Birmingham Crown Court for sentencing on 6 July 2026. He was jailed for 22 years. (West Midlands Police) The case was particularly significant because of the type of weapons involved. Both firearms were capable of presenting an extreme danger to members of the public, and the fatal shooting took place during daylight hours on an industrial estate where other people were present. Earlier police reporting said a 22-year-old man was also injured during the incident.
