@christcentereddating: Living together before marriage is often presented as the responsible choice. “Test compatibility first.” “See what everyday life is like.” “Make sure you can actually live together before committing forever.” It sounds practical. But Christian marriage was never designed to be a trial run. Marriage isn’t simply dating with a shared address. It’s covenant. It’s choosing someone before God and saying, “I’m staying.” That commitment creates a kind of security that simply sharing rent, chores, groceries, and a bed cannot manufacture on its own. You absolutely should learn whether you’re compatible before marriage. Have hard conversations. See each other stressed, disappointed, tired, frustrated, and imperfect. Talk about money, children, faith, family, conflict, expectations, sex, careers, and the future. But you don’t have to imitate marriage to discern whether you should enter it. And the research on cohabitation is more nuanced than saying living together automatically causes divorce. Studies have found associations between premarital cohabitation and later marital outcomes, but factors like age, commitment, relationship history, and why a couple moves in together matter too. For Christians, though, there’s an even deeper question: Are we trying to experience the benefits of covenant before making the covenant? God’s design for marriage asks for something radically different from a trial period. It asks for commitment before convenience. Faithfulness before certainty. Two imperfect people deciding that when life becomes difficult, the first instinct won’t be to find the exit. You don’t prepare for lifelong love by pretending you already made the promise. You prepare by becoming the kind of person capable of keeping it. Date intentionally. Ask difficult questions. Seek wise counsel. Pray together. Learn each other deeply. Then, when you’re ready, enter the covenant fully. Marriage was never meant to be something you test-drive. It was meant to be something you choose. 🤍 #couple #dating #datingtips #marriage #christiandating

Idk if posting a Jesus sticker under every opinion we have is appropriate. Not a single verse to express how the Bible supports this claim. I live with my girlfriend and we sat down and talked about our intentions months before we ever started dating, and we started living together because I was homeless before that. Marriage is definitely a covenant, but that doesn’t mean because the OP doesn’t support it that it universally means we’re “practicing the exit”

I mean in the days of the Bible people were getting married within days or at the moment of meeting. You're really saying that a couple that has been dating for months and years, are commited to each other, but just havent had the time or money to have a wedding cant live together

But what declares marriage? The ring is just jewelry and everything else is just paper and married couples had neither of those years ago. Genuine question

I agree with this but also think there are exceptions as long as you're kingdom minded. For example my girlfri end lives in another state, and I'm going to move over there so she can be closer to her family since I don't really have any attachments or roots here. With the way that this world is built and designed, we're going to move in together and be married shortly after once I ask for her father's approval because I can't just pick a place for a few months. That's not how leases work anymore. And since I haven't met her father, we can't just be married immediately. Furthermore, we plan on just doing a government marriage for now and then having our wedding marriage, the real one, later. I have cancer, and I'm going to be going through chemo and looking sick for a while. I don't want my wedding photos to show me looking half dead. I want us looking radiant and healthy and shining with the light of the Lord. Our commitment will still be before God and we'll be attached by the government, but we won't fully seal our covenant marriage until that church wedding. I still think we can move in together with all that in mind.

I was about to be homeless so I had no choice to move in with my girl. But in the process of getting marriage papers to have a fulfilled covenant. We aren’t perfect. But we can do better day by day.

my sister was with a guy for 3.5 years, we all thought he was end game for her. They were best friends and got along so well. She moved an hour away and they bought a house together near his job. a MONTH into living together, he was so mean, completely changed and cheated. So respectfully ✨no✨

The Bible doesn't condemn that, this is just church culture, now seggs before marriage that's a different story.
