After the Seakeeper stabilization system is activated from the helm, the displayed roll angle quickly decreases and the vessel becomes visibly steadier despite the surrounding water continuing to move. Inside the Seakeeper 2, a heavy flywheel spins at extremely high speed within a near-vacuum enclosure. As the boat begins to roll, the spinning gyroscope is actively controlled to produce a counteracting torque that resists the vessel’s side-to-side rotational motion. Gyroscopic stabilization can significantly improve comfort and usability aboard smaller vessels without requiring external fins extending beneath the hull. By reducing roll while underway or at low speeds, systems like this can make activities such as fishing, working, and simply moving around onboard considerably more stable.
