One year, it was 100% empty, not even the 3 pieces of gas station 💩 he usually bought in Xmas Eve. My youngest (6 at the time), screamed and cried saying, “if Santa doesn’t love Mommy, I don’t love Santa!” He grabbed handfuls from his own stocking and stuffed them into mine. My ex later apologized until I was comforting him. He did the same the next year. It never changed. Christmas was an opportunity to get me to tell him he wasn’t as bad as all that. Spoiler alert: he was.

Christmas 2022. I had took a new position at work and just didn't have time to find old things of mine around the house to wrap and open this year so I just didn't. I didn't think anything about it. until we all opened presents and my oldest said why don't you have anything to open? nothing. not 1 thing. and he's been punishing me for it ever since. because I embarrassed him in front of the kids.
