One of my favorite "everyday" math mistakes comes from a log from the ticket both of the Globe theater in England, when they were transitioning from Roman numerals to Arabic numerals. The employee(s) kept practicing problems in the margins and extra pages and didn't yet have a great grasp on the new math

How is 4/625 more helpful than 1/156.25? We effectively just multiplied both numerator and denominator by 4 in the most convoluted way possible and are no closer to a decimal expression

Gotta love some good algebra. Another good method: 12.5 = 25/2 then (25/2)^2 = 625 / 4, so the reciprocal is now trivial, but I still don’t have a good way to make it a decimal!
