@jakewxcenter1: Why does El Niño form? It’s a complicated process but in simple terms it comes from three main factors. 1. Wind: wind is formed by difference in temperatures and pressure. Higher temp difference means more wind, smaller temp different less wind. Hold onto that thought for later. 2. Rossby waves these are waves in fluids that are formed when those fluids are in a rotating surface, like the earth. And when then surface is spherical they form kinks and waves. With some colder areas and some warmer areas. The best example of a rossby wave are the kinks that form in the jet stream. 3. Kelvin waves. These are waves that form in the ocean as a reaction to normally circulating ocean waters. Winds typically push water from South America to Australia but in physics any reaction requires an opposite reaction. The reaction of that water moving in kelvin waves. Bring these three concepts together when you get a particularly warm kink in a rossby wave and a particularly warm returning kelvin wave at the same time sea surface temperatures near South America become and normally warm. This results in temperatures differences between the Atlantic and pacific becoming smaller so winds weaken. Without strong winds to push those warm water back to Australia the water gets warmer and warmer until you have El Niño conditions. If I had a nickel for every time a attractive guy explained El Niño to me I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s funny it’s happened twice

Finally we get Jake’s two cents about the super El Niño, he’s the only source of news I trust cause I know he’s not an alarmist

That was fantastic Jake👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Very interesting and well explained. I really enjoy learning about all of this, and yes, I would really like to hear how this years El Niño is going to effect our weather here in the US. I live in the central coast of California and I am hearing that we may have a very wet winter. Also looking forward to more on climatology. Thanks Jake, you are amazing!!!
