The hardest thing about reading a paper is jargon. It's hard to parse an unfamiliar dialect with specific turns of phrases and terms with slightly different meanings. It's also hard to know the context

My school made me write a few of those as well as read a few of those and good lord never again 😭 my poor little brain can't handle the constant changes in font (I might have dyslexia) so I have to reread it like 3 times to understand what's going on.

I've been working on expanding my abilities to read and comprehend papers. So far I can fully comprehend the title, authors, abstract, results and conclusions. But only partially comprehend methodology in most papers. Which I think is better than full scientific illiteracy but it falls short of where I could be considered fully scientific literate. and reading the paper becomes so much easier when you know what you are looking to gain from reading it. is it a stronger basis for your own methodology, are you just interested in the outcome of that particular research question, or are you conducting some sort of review and trying to find the gap in the literature.
