Imagine handing over your legs every time you get on a plane and not knowing what condition they’ll be in when you land. In this clip from my conversation with @sophlmorg, she talks about the reality of flying as a wheelchair user. From being separated from her wheelchair and carried onto the plane in a tiny aisle chair, to inaccessible toilets, damaged wheelchairs and sometimes being left sitting on the plane because the assistance simply hasn’t arrived. Sophie travels all the time, but as she told me, flying is still incredibly challenging. She set up @rightsonflights in response to her own experiences and went on to make the brilliant documentary Fight to Fly, which she co-produced with @hellosunshine, @reesewitherspoon’s production company. Reese herself put her weight behind the film, helping Sophie bring much-needed attention to what disabled passengers are experiencing. There is still so much more to be done and, as Sophie says, fighting for change is exhausting. But bravo Sophie.
